Why is it that things never go as you plan? I guess that is simply part of life. People moan and gripe about many top executives at big companies who make a lot of money each year in salaries and bonuses. But, the reality is, many of these people make things happen and that is really priceless, especially in the world of business. Making “things” happen is the most important thing to the operations and vitality of any business large or small. Today’s advice for business owners, do something to make your business more profitable. Don’t do things that don’t have an effect on your bottom line in a positive way. It can be something like refinancing your SBA loan to removing recurring bills for products that you don’t use anymore. Make a difference in your business and get involved.

E-Commerce Landscape Changing

As the days and years go by, the more the online landscape looks like the brick and mortar world. It is becoming harder and harder for small operations to compete with the “big boys” of business in the online world. I am not sure that this is good or bad, just different than it has been over the past 10 years. What will this mean? Innovation will be the key to keeping many small businesses in business just as it has always been.

Arab Search Engine

Living in the states, you pretty much forget that most other countries and people don’t have the access we do to technology and computers. Apparently, someone has realized that there is a big need for an Arab internet portal.

“There is no (full) Arabic Internet search engine on the market. You find so-called search engines, but they involve a directory search, not a local search. There’s nothing available for overall Internet search,” Hermann Havermann, managing director of German Internet tech firm Seekport, told Reuters.

New Blogging Software

So, we have build a pretty cool blogging system that will allow us to do a number of things when posting to a blog including posting Amazon product information, complete with pictures, descriptions and features, post images from Yahoo for a particular search term as well as quote a particular piece of news and link back to that article. All-in-all it is a great tool that allows me to post to a multitude of blogs in a short amount of time, while still creating quality content. Very cool and hats off to JL.

Saudi Detain Man for Internet Article

I always feel like things could be a lot worse here, when I read articles like the one I did today. The Saudi Arabian government is detaining a man for speaking out against the Saudi ruling family’s advisors. I think the whole United States would be in jail if we did things the same way.

Saudi Arabia has detained a prominent Saudi preacher who wrote an Internet article criticising the ruling family’s advisers, colleagues said on Monday.

Video Content is King

I use Windows Media Center on my home television to run DVR, movie playback and a bunch more. The system is not 100% perfect, but it is pretty darn good. Plus, if something blows up, I can fix it. But, as I was watching television last night, I was thinking about the channels that I used to get (when I had digital cable) and how I should simply be able to sign up for them, a-la cart, over the internet and through MCE2005. Seems simple enough to me. I sign up, I download a little plugin for the channel and MCE grabs unique programs for me from that channel when they are made public. Then I can watch the shows at will. Kind of like on Demand, but a little different. I think this is where television and “cable” operations will be in the near future, especially as big, fat internet connections are the norm in everyone’s home. Kind of scary if you are the cable company I guess.

.us Domain Names

Just registered a few .us domain names a month or so ago…yeah, I am on top of things. I am wondering how they will stack up agains other TLDs like .com and .net. I can hardly believe that they get the same amount of weight as a .com does, but maybe it actually does. One of the names I reg’d was likekindexchange.us and another is exchange1031.us. Both of these are real estate related, dealing with like kind or 1031 exchanges. They are the same thing, but the proper name is Like Kind Exchange rather than 1031 exchange, the term people use. So, I will have to see how these things do in the next few months.

Soda or Pop?

I just came across a pretty funny site. Well, it is pretty serious actually, as there was some real work that went into it, but if you are interested in how the words soda and pop are used to describe carbonated beverages, then you will want to look at Pop vs. Soda. I got a good chuckle out of it at first and then I actually started to get into the distribution of how each term is used…as well as Coke. A very interesting site actually.
